Westford Fine Art and Craft – 4 Artists – 8 Weeks --- The Reception

A special thanks to Frank Winters (http://bystander.smugmug.com/, http://frankwinters.wordpress.com/) for lending the following images that he shot at last Saturday's reception. The official opening and reception for Westford Fine Art and Craft –  4 Artists – 8 Weeks, at Le Gourmet Jardin, at 40 Main Street in Westford, was really very successful. Many familiar faces were there as well as many people who were introduced to the artists and to Marie Doctor's shop.

The show, featuring the work of Westford artists, Gail Flannery, Alice Phalen, Frank Winters and me, Adrien Bisson continues at Le Gourmet Jardin through the end of the year. Get directions here.  Le Jardin Gourmet is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All of the photos shown in this post were kindly supplied by Frank Winters (http://bystander.smugmug.com/, http://frankwinters.wordpress.com/)

People at Work

The concept for my latest project is People at Work. Studio portraits are great. I love the qualities of light and shadow that are possible in the studio. But when a career is more than just a job, an individual's personality can really be drawn out when they are photographed in their own workplace. So in the coming months I will be showing off some of this work and hopefully introducing you to some really interesting people at the same time.

Last week I was fortunate enough to spend an hour with artist Heather Wang, photographing her in her Western Avenue Studio. Heather is a jeweler and metalsmith, as well as a teacher. She works in silver, enamel, and many other media, for her collections and special commissions.  Her web site is : http://heatherwang.com/, and you can find her studio at Western Avenue Studios, in Lowell, Massachusetts.  Coincidentally, she will be one of several featured artists at The Loading Dock Gallery, at Western Ave., in December. The show is called Winter Lights - Artisan Showcase.

So here are a few of my shots of Heather. Check back here for more in this series of People at Work.

Thanks!

Heather Wang

A Harvest of Landscape

This month, The Loading Dock Gallery, at Western Avenue Studios presents A Harvest of Landscape - Small Format Landscape Painting by Maxine Farkas and Vicki Green (aka Verde). It runs until November 23, and the reception was held last night at the gallery. Always fun and festive, the receptions at The Loading Dock Gallery are open to the public, and feature food and beverages and an opportunity to see great art and the artists who create it. Last night was no exception.

Making Strides

Last Sunday, October 5th, I was honored to join the walkers from the Abraham Lincoln School, in Lowell, Massachusetts, walking in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston. Some of the walkers nabbed Mayor Menino for a photo as he walked into the Hatch Shell to give his remarks.

Later on, the whole group gathered for a shot at the Arthur Fiedler bust:

It was a good day!

Lowell Open Studios

Lowell Open Studios 2008 just ended, and I hope everyone who came to Western Avenue Studios had an enjoyable afternoon. Those of us who were open for LOS on the second floor of the A Mill thought that we would pose for a group shot. I think we came together to create an inviting, and artistic space on the floor for this, our floor's first Lowell Open Studio.

Pictured, from left to right are: Jane Sarah MacFarlane, Jess Cohen, Michael Miller, Karen Bettencourt, Jeff Engel, David Crane and me, Adrien Bisson.

Last Sunday in Boston

Sometimes it's easy to forget how photogenic your own city is. I am always reminded of that when I make the effort to go into Boston. Last Sunday my son and I did our own walking tour, starting from his apartment near Porter Square in Cambridge. We walked to Harvard Square to have lunch and then to the T to Park Street. We walked to the North End and along the warfs to South Station. Here are a few of my shots.

I guess they are planning to do some work beneath the street...

  The light was amazing...

Montréal

We recently went to Montréal...well, in late July, but I'm a little behind in my work..there's a shock.  Anyway, it wasn't our first trip. In fact we probably go at least once a year to Montréal or someplace else in the province. This time we went to les Cantons-de-l'Est (the eastern townships) as well. The food that you can find both in Montréal and elsewhere in Québec is unbelievable.

These shots are at the summit of la Belvédère Kondiaronk (lookout) and le chalêt du Mont-Royal.

Later we went to the location of the old Expo '67. I actually attended it in '67 with my parents :-)

Then there was the market in Little Italy...

The evening in the old city...

And the Eastern Townships...
